Which grade-level class should my son/daughter take?

During the summer: Students should take classes that align to the grade level they will enter in the fall.

• Ex: If a student is currently in 6th grade, but is entering 7th grade in the fall, they should join 7th/8th grade group classes, not 5th/6th grade group classes.

During the school year: Students should take classes that align to the grade level they are currently enrolled in.

Is your grade level group class too easy/too difficult? Students can join other grade level classes to give them the correct amount of challenge, or they can work with a private tutor 1-on-1! Please let our support team know after the first day if your student instead wishes to join a different class that is more appropriate for their level.

How long do group classes last?

Weekly group classes range from 5 weeks to 16 weeks, while daily group classes range from 5 days to 10 days. To confirm the exact length of your desired course, please check its description!

What happens if my son/daughter misses a class?

Class Materials

If you wish to pick up a copy of the class materials for the missed class, please email [email protected] and the email of your class teacher. We can prepare a copy of the resources. If you’d prefer a digital copy, please let us know.

Class Billing

For weekly classes rather than intensive classes, if your student has a planned absence (informed Tokyo Academics more than 24 hours in advance), you will not be billed for the absence. Cancellations within 24 hours of the class are billed to the client.

Depending on your student's grade, they can instead opt to join the class remotely. Please inquire with our support team on whether this is possible.

Class Make up

Students can also arrange for a 1-on-1 lesson with their tutor (when possible) to complete the day's assignments before the next class.

Can my son/daughter join for just one week?

If necessary, students can opt to join for only one week of the course.

It is not ideal for students to only join for one week of the course. Students who only join 1 week will not receive the full benefits of the course and may have different learning outcomes than their peers who complete the full course. For example, a Digital SAT English student joining for only 1 week will have a different outcome on their test scores than their peers.

Whenever possible, we highly recommend students complete the full course. They can complete the materials with a tutor 1-on-1, or can join the second week remotely via Skype (if they are in 7th grade or above).

What is your refund policy?

Classes are billed at the end of each month. Because we don’t charge in advance, TA does not have a refund policy. That said, we do have a discontinuation policy:

If after the first day of class, you decide not to continue, we will not charge you for that class.

How do custom group classes work?

Along with a friend, a classmate, or even a sibling, students can create a custom group class that is tailored to the students' levels, interests and needs! We can accommodate your own schedule and create a class that meets anywhere from once a week, two times a week, five days in a row, etc.

In order to create a custom group class, at least two students must be interested in joining. We will then identify a schedule that works best for the students and tutor (minimum meeting time is once a week for five weeks).

When it comes to curriculum, we can either use materials supplied by the parents/students or we can use TA’s own materials.

How much do group classes cost?

Group classes are priced at 8,000 yen per hour plus tax. Pricing for custom group classes is different, so please contact our team for more information.
